World Health Organization sets to hold a meeting on the 2^nd of February in Geneva to ascertain if Zika Virus outbreaks constitutes a public Health Emergency of International concern. The recent spread to US among other 22 countries has necessitated this upcoming meeting. WHO Director General; Margaret Chan said the decisions concerning ‘the committee’s membership and advice will be made public on WHO’s website’’

The virus has been associated to increase birth defects; a situation where babies are born with abnormal small heads and in ‘cases of Guillain-Barre syndrome, a poorly understood condition in which the immune system attacks the nervous system, sometimes resulting in paralysis.

Pregnant women are strictly advised to stay off these locations for now.
