Emobileclinic Health news:
Zika virus has been reportedly confirmed to be sexually transmitted in U.S. The director of Centers for Disease Control and Prevention; Tom Frieden says this is expected . “There have been isolated cases of spread through blood transfusion or sexual contact and that’s not very surprising” What we know is the vast majority of spread is going to be from mosquitoes,”
The case took place in Dallas and health officials said the victim had sex with a returnee from one of the Zika infected area; Venezuela .CDC however said there was no risk here. It has been confirmed that Zika virus can stay in the blood for a week but they are yet to find out how long it can survive in the sperm.
As a result of this CDC says he will “focus on the male sexual partners of women who are or who may be pregnant.” They also advise ‘Sexual partners to protect each other by using condoms to prevent spreading sexually transmitted infections”. ”People who have Zika virus infection can protect others by preventing additional mosquito bites.” he says.
This is not the first reported case of Zika virus being sexually transmitted.
In 2008 Brian Foy contacted the virus while on an assignment in Senegal and passed this to the wife on return to Northern Colorado. Also in 2013 at French Polynesia it was discovered in urine samples of a 44 years old man by the name Tahitian.
