Question: I had a tooth extraction a week ago and currently am feeling severe pain from the same area the tooth was removed. I don’t know if part of the tooth is still in the bone because it took the dentist a lot of time to do the extraction.

It usually occurs after a traumatic extraction like in your case also when their is limited blood supply to the area, on oral contraceptive or radiotherapy.
Treatment should aim to keep the open socket clean and to protect exposed bone. It’s important to follow instructions given after extraction. Your dentist may need to put a dressing over the socket.
