Emobileclinic Patient’s Corner
It was his usual habit to eat ground nut either with accompaniment such as Garri or alone. He would make eating groundnut interesting mere watching him did. My other siblings started copying father in his usual way of throwing groundnut up first and then using the mouth as ‘’goal post’’ or rather would say ‘’mouth post’’ Then this fateful day after consuming two wraps of groundnuts at the veranda,
he walked into the sitting room towards the dinning and I saw him suddenly stopped. He held his forehead with one hand and using the other hand to lean on the sofa. I screamed as I watched him fell on the floor. Mother rushed in and we tried to revive him, and he came back to life. Mother insisted he had to visit the hospital. They did and came back with the story of allergy.
Father reacted to groundnut? Was there a poison inside the groundnut? I was 9 years old and I kept wondering why someone would suddenly react to something he has been consuming. A lot of years had passed and I suddenly remembered this story when I reacted to panadol some days ago with my mouth swollen up like that of Mohammed Ali’s opponent.
