Motion sickness is the nausea disorientation and fatique that can be induced by head motion. Motion sickness is a general term, it can be subdivided into sickness due to visual stimulation, due to vestibular stimulation and occasionally, forms occur associated with somatosensory stimulation.
It is sometimes called air sickness, sea sickness, or car sickness. it affects children from 5 to 12 years of age, women and older adults.
VULNERABLE GROUP
According to Benson, nearly 100% of human occupants of life rafts will vomit in rough seas, 60% of student air crew members suffer from air sickness some time during their training. Children are said to be almost immune to motion sickness up to the age of two.
CAUSES
• Disconnection or disagreement in the combination of visual, touch, inner ear and internal expectation information in the brain.
• Loss of the usual otolith signal associated with head movement from the gravitational axis.
• People suffering from migraine.
SYMPTOMS
• Excessive cold, sweating on the upper lip or forehead.
• Nausea
• Vomiting
• Headache
• Yawning, restlessness
• Stomach upset
TREATMENT
• Use of antiemetic drugs
• Eat a few dry soda crackers, bread, banana, rice
