FIBROSIS AND CYSTS CONTRIBUTE TO BREAST LUMPS

Breast lump is a swelling, protuberance, bulge or bump in the breast that feels different from the breast tissue in the same area of the other breast. It is like a knot in the breast. Mostly not cancerous (benign).Breasts with lump are usually red, distended or it may dimple. It can be painful or not .Breast lumps are usually as a result of hormonal change in the female’s body. Menstrual cycle, adolescence, menopause and pregnancy could bring about hormonal change in females. For instance, most women feel the heaviness of their breast before or during menstruation. A non-associated pain with menstrual cycle is called non-cyclin pain. Breast lumps can also be caused by infection or trauma and as such should not be taken for granted. It affects both gender but commonly affects woman.

Most lumps are also caused by fibrosis and cysts. It is often referred to as fibrosis changes or fibrosis disease (formation of a scar- like tissue). These cases are usually discovered by doctors following the patients’ experiences or symptoms. Women with breast lumps caused as a result of fibrosis and cysts often experience pain in the breast before the beginning of menstrual cycle. Other symptoms are lumpy breast and cloudy nipple discharge.

Cyst is like a blister of various shapes and sizes and of different textures( soft like liquid or semi-solid) A cyst are located within a tissue and thus can occur anywhere in the body. This is common in women between the age of 30 and 40 and it goes away after menopause except the woman is taking hormone replacement therapy.

There are some self-therapy to stop breast pain like, wearing a comfortable bra, heating pads, ice packs, massaging the breasts with message oil, painkilling topical lotions and gels. However, larger lumps need to be surgically removed.
