Hematemesis is a disorder characterized with the loss of blood in the body through vomiting. It calls for serious concern when there is blood vomit which may be in the simple form like ordinary nosebleed or severe form like gut bleeding. Vomiting blood is a medical emergency irrespective of the cause and severity.

The diagnosis can be done after a detailed review of the patient by the doctor. The condition can be diagnosed through blood tests, stool microscopy and endoscopy. Imaging tests such as CT scan and X-ray. All these are needed to examine the underlying cause of the bleeding.
