Atrial Fibrillation (AF) also known as irregular heart beat needs to be looked out for as most people do not have the symptoms. People who do regular checkup are at lower risk because if discovered at that period it can be corrected.AF increases the risk of stroke and it can be on and off.

When AF episodes last not more than 7 days, it is referred to as paroxysmal. This can go on its own without being treated but when the duration last more than 7 days, it is called persistent atrial fibrillation and it can become permanent if isn’t treated. The good news is that there is no permanent condition once is treated, but when left untreated it causes heart disease and stroke.




Major symptoms are;

  • Heart palpitation

  • Irregular pulse

  • Shortness of breath which occur most during physical exercise

  • Weakness and fatigue

  • Chest Pain

  • Dizziness

  • Confusion

  • Fainting

It is important to check your pulse regularly to ensure regular heart rhythm. Some people are more likely to have AF than others. The likelihood increases with;




  • Family history of AF

  • Obesity

  • Age of 60 and above

  • Gender :Being a Male

  • Smoking

  • Alcohol
