Another Martyr Dies of Lassa fever!

A specialist dies today in River State of Lassa Fever .This is another sad medical tragedy in the health sector of our country at this most crucial period. The contagious nature of Lassa fever is similar to that of Ebola and medical personnel need to be extremely careful when dealing with any patient that comes through emergency. All medical protocols must be observed before examining any patients.

The chairman of NMA in River State has confirmed the death of Dr. Jamala; a consultant Obstetrician and gynecologist in Braithwait Specialist Hospital; who came in contact with a pregnant woman infected with Lassa fever. He however died in the line of duty (May his soul rest in peace).


The patient was rushed into the clinic and while trying to save both mother and child, he met his demise. The said patients who had shown no earlier sign of the fever during her antenatal had to be operated on as a matter of urgency when she was rushed into the clinic. Dr Jamala started showing sign of malaria few days after the surgery and test was carried out after he started vomiting blood. It was however too late as he died on the way to the Lassa Special Center.
