Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is a diseases that involve the heart or blood vessels.Cardiovascular disease includes coronary artery diseases (CAD) like angina and myocardial infarction (also known as a heart attack). Others are stroke, hypertensive heart disease, rheumatic heart disease, cardiomyopathy, atrial fibrillation, congenital heart disease, endocarditis, aortic aneurysms, peripheral artery disease and venous thrombosis.
TRIGGER FACTORS.
There are several risk factors of heart diseases such as: age, gender, tobacco use, physical inactivity, excessive alcohol consumption, unhealthy diet, obesity, family history of cardiovascular disease, High blood pressure (hypertension), High blood sugar (diabetes mellitus), High blood cholesterol (hyperlipidemia), psychosocial factors and air pollution.
It is estimated that 90% of CVD is preventable by by decreasing the risk factors through: healthy eating, exercise, avoidance of tobacco smoke and limiting alcohol intake. Treating high blood pressure and diabetes is also beneficial to the heart. Using of antibiotics to treat strep throat can decrease the risk of rheumatic heart disease. Age is a very important risk factor of CVD, the more our age increases, the more the chances of being affected. More than 82% of people above the age of 65 died of coronary heart disease. The risk of having stroke also double with age. Age factor is influenced by Serum cholesterol level which increases with age . The chance of CVD is equally influenced by sex. Men are prone to it than women. The chance of having it in women is high after menopause equating it to the same percentage with men.
